YouthBuild Newark Acquires Grant to Serve Young Ex-Offenders

In June 2012, YouthBuild Newark, Inc. (YBN) procured another grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to serve juvenile offenders. YBN’s receipt of the “Serving Young Adult Ex-Offenders through Training and Service-Learning” grant serves as further indication of the agency’s expertise in serving this particular population of at-risk youth.

By providing skills training, academic instruction, career development, service-learning, case management, and post-program support over a two (2) year period, YBN will be able to assist ninety (90) 18 to 21 year old juvenile offenders gain the skills they need to improve their employability and avoid future delinquency.

The grant comes on the heels of YBN’s previous receipt of the YouthBuild USA’s “Start Making a Real Transformation” (SMART) grant, a pass-through award from the USDOL that permits YBN to provide services to youthful offenders over two (2) years. Through both grants, YBN continues to maintain its capacity to improve the life outcomes of Newark’s juvenile offenders.
