To prepare students for careers in health-related professions, YBN has partnered with the Rutgers School of Health Related Professions (SHRP), formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) SHRP to establish a “Health Science Careers Joint Program.” A single, integrated program composed of college level courses with clinical experiences, students who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to earn college credit.

Comprised of high school general education courses, college level health science courses, and clinical exposure to a variety of health careers, students will gain the foundational knowledge needed for entry into health careers. YBN students may earn a maximum of 31 credits for college level courses. We are excited to offer the program to our Fall 2013 cohort.

This partnership comes on the heels of YBN’s expanded relationship with long-held partner Essex County College (ECC). In addition to accessing academic support services such as tutoring, career counseling, and ECC’s Learning Center, students can now explore “middle college” by taking academic foundation courses through ECC’s 2013 Summer Bridge Program. Students that successfully pass these courses will be exempt from having to take the ACCUPLACER (college placement exam) and will be able to directly enroll into college-level courses. ECC instructors will provide instruction at YBN’s program offices at 31 Central Avenue, Newark, NJ. Classes will take place from July 8 through August 1, 2013.

Committed to providing students with opportunities to learn about and prepare for other industries, YBN has also formalized a partnership with the New Community Corporation (NCC) Workforce Development Center, a state-of-the-art continuing education facility that provides career training and certification in a variety of fields, including culinary arts, nursing and automotive training. In addition to courses of study, YBN students and graduates will have access to supportive services including on-site career counseling, career exploration and planning, financial aid guidance, and job placement assistance.
